Kuldeep’s story

Seeing the World Anew

Kuldeep, a 45-year-old carpenter from a low-income area of Jaipur, is the sole breadwinner for his family of five. His carpentry skills are essential for their survival, especially with two children in school. However, a year ago, Kuldeep’s vision began to deteriorate, making near objects blurry and turning simple tasks like cutting wood into risky endeavours. Frequent mistakes led to injuries and dissatisfaction among customers, causing work to dwindle and eroding his confidence.
During this challenging time, a health worker from Sightsavers India’s Urban Eye Health Programme visited his area and recognized Kuldeep’s vision problems. He was taken to an eye health camp, where he received a free eye examination, and a pair of spectacles provided by OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.

The impact was transformative. With his new glasses, Kuldeep’s vision cleared, and the headaches that once plagued him vanished. He regained clarity and precision in his work, resulting in fewer mistakes and improved customer satisfaction. Kuldeep now feels happier and more secure, knowing he can provide for his family without the fear of errors and accidents. His story exemplifies the profound difference accessible eye care can make in people’s lives.
