Krishnaveni’s story

Restoring Sight, Restoring Confidence: The Story of Ms. Krishnaveni

Ms. Krishnaveni, a 45-year-old woman, has worked as a housekeeping staff member in the Maternity Ward of H. Siddaiah Referral Hospital for the past five years. She supports her family alongside her husband, who sells vegetables on the roadside, and her son, a daily-wage labourer in a factory.

During an eye screening conducted for the hospital staff, Krishnaveni was also among them.  The optometrist identified a significant cataract in her left eye, covering nearly 60–70%, which was severely affecting her vision. The team counselled her on the condition and the risks of delayed treatment. Though initially hesitant due to fear and limited awareness, continuous guidance and reassurance helped her gain confidence and agree to surgery. She completed all required clinical investigations, including RBS, HIV, HBsAg, ECG and a physician fitness assessment, all of which were normal.

Ms. Krishnaveni underwent cataract surgery at Manasa Charitable Hospital (Jindal Rural Charitable Hospital), Chikkabidarakallu, Bengaluru, with her daughter-in-law supporting her as a caregiver. Today, her vision has improved significantly, and encouraged by the outcome, she is planning surgery for her right eye. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisation for restoring her confidence, independence and quality of life through timely eye care support.
