Geetanjali & Tanisha’s Story

Geetanjali (13) and Tanisha (9) are sisters from Rajgarh whose lives were quietly being shaped by an undiagnosed vision problem. Their father works as a labourer and their mother earns a small income doing cleaning work in nearby houses. With six children to support, the family’s modest earnings left little room for professional eye care, even when the girls began struggling in school.

For months, Geetanjali, in Class 7 and Tanisha, in Class 3, faced growing difficulties. Blurred vision, constant eye pain and watery eyes became an everyday issue. They could not see the blackboard clearly or focus on their studies, yet they had no way of knowing exactly what was wrong.

That changed when a screening camp was held at their school under Sightsavers India’s Vidya Jyoti- School Eye Health Programme. Both sisters were examined and referred to the Rajgarh Eye Examination Centre. After follow-ups, they were sent to Alwar Hospital for further check up, where specialists diagnosed their condition and prescribed glasses. Through the programme, they received these glasses free of cost.

The transformation was immediate. “Before the glasses, I could not focus on my studies or see distant objects. My eyes hurt constantly and would water,” shared Geetanjali. “Now I can see clearly and study with ease.” Tanisha expressed similar joy, and their parents are equally relieved.

Today, the girls are back to enjoying school and looking forward to their future. Their family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctor and the entire team whose support has restored not just their vision, but also their confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
