Younus’ story

Hailing from Laharpur in Sitapur District of Uttar Pradesh, 75-year-old Younus suffered from poor eyesight for nearly a year.

With each passing day, his eyesight went from bad to worse. Eventually, it became really difficult for him to see. With not much financial support from his children, Younus had no other way but to wait for a miracle to happen. He had started to lose hope.

On 30th June, 2018, Younus got to know that an eye screening camp was organised in his village by Sightsavers in association with Sitapur Eye Hospital. He was accompanied by his 5-year-old granddaughter- Sameera to the screening camp. Younus was diagnosed with cataract in both eyes. He was brought to Sitapur Eye Hospital by the team for the cataract operation. The cost of the entire procedure was taken care by Sightsavers. All this while, Sameera was right beside her grandfather.

With his eyesight being restored, Younus feels that he has almost got a new life. He says, ‘’I am happy that there are services like these for the economically poor like me. Without the support, I would have never imagined of getting the operation. Hopefully, next month I will be coming back to get my left eye operated as well.”
