Vinay overcomes refractive error

Overcoming refractive error

Vinay is 14 years old and studies in the ninth standard of the local Government High School. His father is an auto-rickshaw driver and his mother a homemaker. Like most boys his age, Vinay loves watching television and playing.

Vinay has had severe refractive error since birth, which made it difficult for him to see distant objects clearly and affected his performance in school. Since no one in his circle was aware that there could be a more permanent solution to his problem, his eyesight steadily deteriorated over the years. This continued until 2009, when through Nanna Kannu’s door-to-door survey, Vinay came under the care of Sankara Eye Hospital, a Sightsavers’ supported partner.

Today, after treatment at Sankara Eye Hospital, Vinay’s vision has improved greatly. As a result, he now reads and writes independently, participates more actively in school and has started getting better results – such as standing second in class.
