Radha’s story

From Shadows to Light

In a small village of, Araria district in Bihar, lives Radha, a 65-year-old housewife whose determination speaks volumes. With both her daughters married and living in different cities, she and her husband manage their small household together. But over time, her eyesight began to fade, making even the simplest chores difficult.

Her struggle came to light during a screening camp organised in her village by Lions Netralaya, Forbesganj, in collaboration with Sightsavers India. The team diagnosed her with cataract and referred her to the base hospital. About six months ago, she underwent surgery in her left eye through the same outreach programme. It was a moment that changed her life.

Encouraged by the results, Radha patiently waited for the next camp to have her right eye operated. With the return of the camp for another round of screenings, she was one of the first to arrive. She was again referred to the hospital, where her right eye cataract surgery was successfully performed with a posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implant.

Her recovery was smooth and her vision improved remarkably. Today, with both eyes operated, she moves around her home with confidence and independence. She shared how grateful she feels to the hospital team and Sightsavers India for making this possible without any financial burden or the fear of travelling alone to distant hospitals.
