Dilip’s story

A Clearer View of Life- Dilip Pal’s Journey

At 66, Dilip Pal from Ia small Village in Indore  was known for his active role in the family. Living with his youngest son, his only child still at home, Dilip was a constant source of support. He helped his wife, a homemaker, with daily chores, whether it was buying vegetables, dropping and picking up the children from school, or running other household errands.

However, in recent months, Dilip’s routine had been disrupted. Persistent watering of his eyes and increasingly blurry vision made even the simplest tasks challenging. His family grew concerned, but financial limitations kept them from seeking immediate medical help.

One day, the Sightsavers India eye health team visited his locality to spread awareness about an upcoming eye screening camp in the area. Seeing this as a much needed opportunity, Dilip decided to attend. At the camp, he underwent a primary eye check-up and was diagnosed with cataract being identified as the main cause of his vision problems.

The team explained the condition and recommended surgery as the best solution. Worry crept in when Dilip’s son mentioned their financial constraints, but relief quickly followed when the team assured them that the entire surgery, along with all related expenses, would be provided free of cost through the hospital.

Soon after, Dilip underwent cataract surgery. The procedure was a success, and within days, his vision improved dramatically. With his sight restored, he could once again perform his household responsibilities with ease, bringing back his independence and joy.

“I had lost hope of living a normal life again,” Dilip shared with gratitude. “But thanks to care of the team, I can see clearly and fulfil my responsibilities once more.”
