Sonu’s story

Driving Towards Clarity: Sonu’s Journey

Sonu, a 37-year-old resident of Mudgaon district, completed his senior secondary education. However, due to difficult financial circumstances at home, he had to discontinue his studies and take up work as a truck driver with a company in Gurugram to support his family.

After a few years on the road, Sonu began experiencing difficulty seeing clearly at night. Although he was aware that he needed an eye check-up, his busy schedule kept pushing it further down his list of priorities.

One day, Sonu learnt from a community health worker about a free eye check-up camp and spectacle provision being offered under Sightsavers India’s RAAHI – National Truckers Eye Health Programme, through the RAAHI Drishti Kendra. Encouraged by the accessibility of these services, he decided to get his eyes tested.

At the Drishti Kendra, the optometrist diagnosed him with farsightedness and prescribed corrective lenses for distance vision. A few days later, Sonu received his spectacles, free of cost.

The results were immediate and impactful.

“The glasses give me a very clear vision for distance. There is no problem while driving now, and I am completely satisfied with the service, quality, frame and finishing,” Sonu shared gratefully.

With the support of Sightsavers India and OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation, Sonu is now able to continue his work safely and confidently. His story stands as a reminder of how accessible vision care can transform the lives of those who work tirelessly to keep the country moving.
