Sightsavers Organises Vision Rajasthan 2019 ‘A CSR Conclave to Sensitise Corporates on Importance of Eye Care’

May 2016

Sightsavers, a development organisation that works to prevent avoidable blindness, restore sight and advocate for social inclusion and equal rights for people with disabilities recently organised a CSR Conclave. The prime objective of the conclave was to sensitise corporates and to make them aware of how the sector has transformed after the CSR law had come into effect. Corporates were also made conscious of the current health systems in the field of eye care and how they can participate and contribute to bring about an overall improvement in districts of Rajasthan.

Sightsavers had started its programmatic operations in the country way back in 1966 and since then it has successfully reached out to millions of people living in the deprived regions of the country. Recently, Sightsavers had completed 50 years of its operations in India.

The event also witnessed active participation from State Govt. officials representing the health department and decision makers from numerous prominent corporate entities of international and national repute.

On the occasion, a history wall designed to exhibit Sightsavers’ journey through the years, was unveiled. The wall highlighted significant milestones, key initiatives and major partnerships that Sightsavers was able to achieve over the past five decades.

“This initiative is our effort to make corporate entities aware of how they can be a part of our cause and help eradicate avoidable blindness from the country” said RN Mohanty, CEO Sightsavers (India).

Present at the occasion were the Principal Secretary Health Shri Mr Mukesh Sharma and Joint Director Public Health Dr. Mohd. Iqbal Bharti who had addressed the audience and shared key inputs on health systems. Senior members of Sightsavers had also offered an insight to how till date they have been successful in transforming eye health systems in Rajasthan and how through help of both government state officials and corporates a more sustainable system can be created.

About Sightsavers: Sightsavers is a global development organisation working in India since 1966 to eliminate avoidable blindness and to ensure that people who are irreversibly blind are supported adequately to lead lives of independence and dignity.

Today, we work with partner organisations across major states in India bringing eye healthcare, educational support, training and leadership development to visually impaired people in some of the least served areas.

We work sustainably for lasting change – by strengthening existing health systems, seeking to advocate with governments and by demonstrating best practises. We network with like-minded organisations to advocate for the rights of the disabled.

Sightsavers believes in promoting indigenous technologies in eye healthcare to ensure a wider reach. Please visit staging-sightsaverswww.sightsaversindia.org to know more.
